Which week this fall will make it hardest to get a morning coffee in Big Sky? October is the obvious guess. The answer is the first week of November. That's when Cowboy Coffee and Hero Snow Coffee are both on break and The Waypoint goes dark, while several bigger kitchens are already well into their own closures.
Visit Big Sky's 2026 Fall Dining Guide, updated September 29, shows that shoulder season is a string of overlapping breaks spread over two months. The breaks bunch up between November 2 and November 10, then ease into the stretch before the mountain reopens on Wednesday, November 25. Some Town Center spots never take a break at all, and a few of the town's best events land right before the slowest week.
The places that stay open the whole way through
Start with what doesn't change. The guide lists these Town Center spots with regular hours and no dated closure this fall:
- Blue Moon Bakery, every day 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Hungry Moose Market & Deli, every day 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Roxy's Market, every day 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Beehive Basin Brewery, every day noon to 10 p.m.
- Terrain Tacos at Gravity Haus, every day 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- The Rocks Tasting Room, every day 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Pinky G's Pizzeria, every day noon to 8 p.m.
- Thai Basil, noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday
- Caliber Coffee, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday
Block 3 runs Tuesday through Saturday dinners. Milkies Pizza & Pub serves weekday evenings and all day Sunday. Tips Up opens Monday and Thursday afternoons and stays open longer Friday through Sunday. The Wilson Lobby Bar opens daily at 3 p.m., with food on Sundays and Mondays. In Meadow Village, Country Market is open every day from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Mi Pueblito taco bus by ACE Hardware serves seven days a week.
Down the canyon, Cafe 191 opens every morning at 6. Lone Perk Coffee House opens at 6 Monday through Saturday, Corral Steakhouse serves Tuesday through Sunday, and The Riverhouse BBQ opens daily at 3 p.m. Buck's, back after more than two years closed when it reopened last December, now serves Wednesday through Sunday evenings with music on Wednesdays. Up the hill, the hotel restaurants keep full schedules. At Montage Big Sky, Alpenglow, Cortina and Beartooth Pub & Rec are open daily, and Beartooth's bowling lanes run noon to 10 p.m. At One&Only Moonlight Basin, Wildwood and Dear Josephine serve every day and Akira Back serves Tuesday through Saturday.
All of the timing below plays out around this steady group.
October thins out slowly, and the calendar fills the gaps
A few places closed before October started. Scoops has been closed since September 23. Big Sky Noodles and Michaelangelo's Ristorante both closed September 27. Ousel and Spur started its break yesterday, October 3, and reopens after November 1.
Mid-month brings the next round. Olive B's closes October 16, The Wrap Shack goes on break October 23, and Alberto's follows on October 24. Gourmet Gals' weekday hours are listed only through October 30.
The calendar gets busier while the restaurant list shrinks. Big Sky Community Week runs October 5 through 9 with free events around town. The opening day includes Community Coffee, Kids Storytime, a Pilates class, a youth watercolor session and the State of the Community talk. The Arts Council of Big Sky holds a free two-part Cartonería workshop at the Big Sky Center for the Arts, 77 Lone Peak Drive, on Thursday, October 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, October 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. Jeki Yoo brings a family-friendly magic and sleight-of-hand show, with Ellie K. Park, to Warren Miller Performing Arts Center on October 18. The Waypoint at 50 Ousel Falls Road changes its movie lineup weekly: Practical Magic 2 from October 9, Heart of the Beast from October 16 and Wildwood from October 23.
Halloween weekend is the last big push before the low point
From October 29 to November 2, the town gets more events than at any other point this fall:
| Date | Event | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Thu, Oct 29, 9:30 p.m. | The Rocky Horror Picture Show | The Waypoint |
| Fri, Oct 30, 4–6 p.m. | BSCO Costume Climb | BASE |
| Fri, Oct 30, doors 8 p.m. | Skull & Roses Ball | Tips Up |
| Oct 30–Nov 1 | Haunted Peaks Halloween Festival | Big Sky Town Center |
| Sun, Nov 1, noon–7 p.m. | Día de Muertos and Parade of Catrinas | Big Sky Center for the Arts |
| Mon, Nov 2, noon–7 p.m. | Community altar and remembrance stations | Big Sky Center for the Arts |
Haunted Peaks is all-ages. The lineup includes a haunted run, a Mini Monster Mash, a Yappy Hour, horror films, a costume pub crawl and Día de Muertos activities. Ousel and Spur's break runs through November 1, the day the festival wraps up, so Town Center gets one dinner spot back right as several others are about to close.
November 2 through 10 is the actual low point
Line up the guide's dates and the closures overlap most in the first full week of November. From Monday, November 2 through Saturday, November 7, these spots are all on break at once:
| Spot | Area | Break dates |
|---|---|---|
| Scoops | Town Center | 9/23–11/27 |
| Big Sky Noodles | Town Center | 9/27–12/2 |
| Michaelangelo's Ristorante | Meadow Village | 9/27–12/9 |
| Olive B's | Meadow Village | 10/16–12/7 |
| The Wrap Shack | Town Center | 10/23–mid-November |
| Alberto's | Town Center | 10/24–12/4 |
| Cowboy Coffee | Town Center | 11/1–11/7 |
| Hero Snow Coffee | Meadow Village | 11/2–11/9 |
| The Waypoint | Town Center | 11/3–11/10 |
Coffee shows the pattern most clearly. Cowboy Coffee's break ends November 7. Hero Snow's runs through November 9, the same day Unravel Coffee at Gravity Haus starts a break that lasts until November 23. Hero Snow then closes again from November 23 to 29. Through every one of those changes, Caliber Coffee, Blue Moon Bakery, Lone Perk and Cafe 191 keep their usual hours. If you pick up coffee on the way somewhere, those four are your sure bets for the month.
That same week, Big Sky Community Theatre stages Doublewide, Texas at WMPAC on November 5 and 6. For anyone gearing up for winter, the Bridger Ski Foundation's 58th annual Ski Swap is in Bozeman on November 7 and 8 at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds. It's the nearest swap found for this fall, since no Big Sky swap turned up in local listings.
The Ousel Falls trail is still there for a weekend outing. BSCO lists it as an easy, year-round, 1.6-mile trail. It isn't groomed in winter and can get icy, so traction becomes more useful as November goes on.
Mid-November brings places back one at a time
The Waypoint's break ends November 10. The next morning, Wednesday, November 11, BSCO hosts its Veterans Day Breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. in the BASE multipurpose room. The Wrap Shack is due back in mid-November. Guitarist Luca Stricagnoli plays WMPAC on Sunday, November 15.
In the canyon, Wild Caddis at Rainbow Ranch is listed at 4 to 9 p.m. The guide pairs those hours with an October 5 through November 17 window and a Wednesday-through-Sunday schedule, so call ahead to check which nights it's open.
Mountain Village stays mostly closed until the lifts start. Big Sky Resort, Cabin Bar & Grill and Scissor Bills are all closed through Tuesday, November 24. Horn and Cantle and the resort's Hungry Moose stay open. The resort lists Carabiner, Chet's Bar & Grill, Montana Jack, Treeline Coffee Roasters and Vista Hall as closed for now. Solace Spa is taking treatment reservations starting November 25.
After November 25, everything comes back in stages
Opening day is Wednesday, November 25, with an event in Mountain Village from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The resort says it will share details on opening terrain closer to the date. The season runs daily through April 11, 2027. The resort hasn't announced a new lift for this winter. Instead, the news is the first full season for the Explorer Gondola and Kircliff, which debuted last winter, plus Iglu Big Sky returning in a bigger space with its own staircase from the gondola's top terminal.
Town Center keeps reopening for a couple of weeks after the lifts start. Here's the order, based on the guide's dates:
- Scoops reopens after November 27.
- Big Sky Noodles reopens after December 2.
- Alberto's reopens after December 4.
- Olive B's reopens after December 7.
- Michaelangelo's reopens after December 9.
- Montana Dinner Yurt opens in mid-December.
M by The Alinea Group returns for its second winter from December 10 to April 3, serving Thursday through Monday, with new courses alongside returning signature dishes. Thanksgiving weekend, The Waypoint shows Warren Miller's Days Off from November 27 through 29.
Hours change, so the guide asks businesses to report corrections to Visit Big Sky at (406) 995-3000. If you're planning around one particular dinner, call ahead before you drive over.
At Chelsea Stewart Real Estate, we use the quiet weeks to catch up with our Big Sky neighbors before the winter rush. If you'd like to know what your Big Sky home is worth before the lifts start turning on November 25, request a free home valuation and we'll put together a clear, local picture for you.
